Almost David
Listen to Him
I’m looking for a movement in a photograph
So I can see who I used to be
And so that I can know the truth
The picture is my proof
That I was here, the past is near
I turn some music on and then I smile at me
And it seems so clear there is no fear
Just an image of a boy whose laughter was a toy
To hide the pain and play the game
Listen to Him
Listen to Him
I hear the phone and wonder who is calling me
But I can’t move the picture soothes
I wonder what I’d do
If I would see it through
Or run away
I couldn’t say
A voice flies through the air and then he speaks to me
He wants to know
If I will go and speak with him tonight
His words they shake with fright
At what I’ll say
But my choice is made
Listen to Him
Listen to Him
The music stops and I feel it’s time to break away
time to be real and close the deal
I made before back in 1984
There will be no lies and no disguise
I drive away and tell him that there is no use
There’s no future here and I see his fear
That I looked upon my youth
and found the bravery to use my words today and
Then walk away.
